Five friends in a heap in the long grass, a honey pot tipped beside them, and the rest of the Forest in round portraits all about. For the reader who never quite left the gentlest place she ever read.
On top of the garden sit the medallions — the friends piled together at the center, the smaller portraits round them — each cut from leather and hand-stitched to the board, the scalloped edges raised above the poppies. The flowers stay flat so the friends can stand off them.
